On May 27, Venus passed behind the Moon, an event called a lunar occultation. Observers in Southeast Asia and the Indian Ocean witnessed the Moon briefly obscure the bright planet. This animated GIF shows Venus, 75 percent illuminated, approaching and disappearing behind the crescent Moon.
