Planets in the West

COSMIC MESSAGE

This weekend, three planets will grace the western sky, forming a lovely trio visible shortly after sunset. Saturn, Venus, and Mercury will all be within a two-degree circle, about the size of your thumb at arm's length, above the western horizon. This image, taken last Sunday, June 19, shows the same three planets aligned along the ecliptic plane above a Colorado Rocky Mountain skyline. Venus is the easiest to spot, shining brightest in the twilight.
