Ring Around Fomalhaut
NASA APOD
COSMIC MESSAGE
The young star Fomalhaut, a mere 25 light-years away in Piscis Austrinus, is surrounded by a vast ring of dusty debris. Earlier infrared observations hinted at this torus of cold material, but the Hubble Space Telescope's ACS camera provided this sharpest-ever visible light image. The immense glare from the star is blocked by an occulting disk in the coronagraph, allowing us to see the faint ring.
