COSMIC MESSAGE
One of the nearest supernovas in recent years was discovered late last month in the bright galaxy M51. Cataloged as 2005cs, it is still near its maximum brightness and is visible with a telescope in the constellation Canes Venatici. This Type II supernova has an unusual brightness, making it a subject of ongoing study.
