Water Ice in a Martian Crater
NASA APOD · Nature
COSMIC MESSAGE
This Martian crater, 70 degrees north of the equator, holds a patch of water ice. The Mars Express spacecraft captured this image in February. The crater's 300-meter-tall wall blocks sunlight, preventing the ice from vaporizing. This ice pocket might be as deep as 200 meters thick, and frost can be seen around its inner edge.
