COSMIC MESSAGE
M57, the Ring Nebula, is a well-known planetary nebula in the constellation Lyra. This composite image shows not only the bright inner ring but also faint, intricate outer rings of hydrogen gas. This structure formed as a dying, Sun-like star shed its outer layers into space, leaving behind a hot white dwarf at its center.
