COSMIC MESSAGE
These two star clusters, M46 and M47, lie in the constellation Puppis. M47, at the lower right, is a younger, looser cluster of stars about 1,600 light-years away. M46, to its upper left, is older and more distant, about 5,400 light-years from us. Both are open clusters, groups of stars born together from the same gas cloud.
