Hydrogen and Dust in the Rosette Nebula

NASA APOD
COSMIC MESSAGE

At the edge of a large molecular cloud in Monoceros, dark dust filaments are silhouetted against luminous hydrogen gas. This close-up view of the Rosette Nebula suggests ongoing star formation. The filaments are sculpted by winds and radiation from hot, young stars. Ultraviolet radiation from these stars ionizes hydrogen, which then emits light as electrons recombine.
