COSMIC MESSAGE

NGC 253, also called the Silver Dollar Galaxy, is a spiral galaxy about 10 million light-years away in the constellation Sculptor. It is one of the brightest spiral galaxies we can see, and also one of the dustiest. The galaxy is about 70,000 light-years across and is the largest member of the Sculptor Group of Galaxies, which is the closest galaxy group to our own Local Group. Astronomer Caroline Herschel first observed it in 1783.
