NASA APOD
COSMIC MESSAGE

M57, the Ring Nebula, is a planetary nebula in the constellation Lyra. It's the expanding shell of gas ejected by a dying Sun-like star. This bright nebula is about 4,000 light-years away and can be seen with a small telescope. Its ring-like appearance is due to our viewing angle through the hollow, spherical shell of gas.
