Gemini South Star Trails

COSMIC MESSAGE

Stars appear to arc across the southern sky in this long-exposure image from the Gemini South Observatory. The camera and tripod were fixed for one hour and forty minutes. This created concentric star trails, a visible record of Earth's rotation. The South Celestial Pole is the apparent center of these curving paths.
