Simulated Transit of Mercury

NASA APOD · Greg Piepol
COSMIC MESSAGE

Mercury, the innermost planet, spent about five hours crossing in front of the Sun. This simulated view, based on a filtered solar image, shows active regions on the Sun and Mercury's diminutive silhouette. Mercury appears about 200 times smaller than the enormous solar disk.
