Halo and Hexagons

NASA APOD · Gil Esquerdo (Whipple Observatory)
COSMIC MESSAGE

Gil Esquerdo photographed this Moon halo at the Whipple Observatory on Mt. Hopkins, Arizona. The halo formed from ice crystals in thin high clouds, which are hexagonal in shape. The observatory's 10-meter gamma-ray telescope, seen in the foreground, blocked the direct moonlight, making the halo more prominent.
