Hydrogen in M33

NASA APOD · Chris Schur
COSMIC MESSAGE

The spiral galaxy M33 is rich in hydrogen, which glows reddish in this image. These glowing regions, called HII regions, are vast stellar nurseries where massive stars are born. Intense ultraviolet radiation from these young stars ionizes the surrounding hydrogen gas, causing it to emit light.
