The Antennae Galaxies in Collision
NASA APOD
COSMIC MESSAGE
The Antennae Galaxies, NGC 4038 and NGC 4039, are colliding in the constellation Corvus. Stars rarely hit each other in such an event because galaxies are mostly empty space. However, the gravitational forces tear the galaxies apart, and their gas and dust clouds do collide, creating new star formation.
