A Pelican in the Swan

COSMIC MESSAGE
The Pelican Nebula, IC 5070, lies about 2,000 light-years away in Cygnus. This cosmic pelican is just off the "east coast" of the North America Nebula, NGC 7000. Both are part of the same large, complex star-forming region. From our vantage point, dark dust clouds form the Pelican's "eye" and "beak."
