COSMIC MESSAGE
Comet McNaught's tail remained visible even after its head had set, surprising many Northern Hemisphere observers. The comet displayed bright, rare filamentary striae within its expansive dust tail. The exact cause of these striae is still debated, but they may be related to fragmentation of the comet's nucleus. This comet was one of the brightest in decades.
