Massive Nearby Spiral Galaxy NGC 2841

NASA APOD · Roberto Colombari
COSMIC MESSAGE

NGC 2841 is a massive spiral galaxy, 46 million light-years away in Ursa Major. This view shows its striking yellow nucleus and galactic disk. Patchy, tightly wound spiral arms contain dust lanes, small pink star-forming regions, and young blue star clusters. Unlike many spirals, it lacks grand, sweeping arms.
