HD 189733b: Hot Jupiter
NASA APOD
COSMIC MESSAGE
HD 189733b is a Jupiter-sized exoplanet orbiting a star 63 light-years away. Unlike our Jupiter, its close orbit makes it extremely hot, a type known as a 'hot Jupiter'. It's tidally locked, meaning one side always faces its star. The Spitzer Space Telescope mapped its temperature variations, the first such map for an exoplanet, revealing a scorching, alien world.
