3D Barringer Meteorite Crater

NASA APOD · Stefan Seip (Astro Meeting)
COSMIC MESSAGE

Barringer Meteorite Crater, near Winslow, Arizona, is one of Earth's best-known impact craters. This stereo anaglyph, viewed with red/blue glasses, gives a dramatic sense of its one-mile width and 570-foot depth. Historically, this was the first crater recognized as caused by an impact, not a volcanic eruption. Modern research indicates a 300,000-ton nickel-iron meteor was responsible.
