COSMIC MESSAGE
Astronomers at the Very Large Telescope in Chile use powerful lasers to create artificial stars in the upper atmosphere. By observing these laser guide stars, they can precisely measure and correct for atmospheric distortions. This allows ground-based telescopes to achieve sharper images, almost as if they were in space.
