Raining Perseids

COSMIC MESSAGE
This image captures the Perseid meteor shower from 2004, a "rain" of comet dust on Earth. Astronomer Fred Bruenjes combined many 30-second exposures to create this dramatic view. The meteors are dust particles from Comet Swift-Tuttle, burning up as they enter Earth's atmosphere. Tonight is a good night to see them, as they peak annually in August.
