I Zwicky 18: The Case of the Aging Galaxy

NASA APOD
COSMIC MESSAGE

I Zwicky 18, a small galaxy 59 million light years away, was once thought to be quite young. Its bright blue stars suggested an age of only 500 million years. However, images from the Hubble Space Telescope revealed older, fainter red stars. This means I Zwicky 18 has been forming stars for billions of years, making it an older galaxy that still resembles those from the early universe.
