The Elephant's Trunk Nebula, IC 1396, is a long, winding structure of cosmic dust and gas in Cepheus. This cosmic trunk is over 20 light-years long. This false-color image uses narrow-band filters, with hydrogen in green, sulfur in red, and oxygen in blue. The composite highlights the bright, swept-back ridges of gas, indicating active star formation.
