Aurora in the Distance

NASA APOD · Lance McVay
COSMIC MESSAGE

Some auroras are too faint for the human eye to see, but a camera can capture them by accumulating light over time. This green, sub-visual aurora was photographed near the horizon above Juneau, Alaska. Auroras occur when energetic particles from the Sun interact with Earth's magnetic environment.
