Stars and Dust through Baade's Window

NASA APOD · Stephane Guisard
COSMIC MESSAGE

Billions of stars light up the direction toward the center of our galaxy, many of them billions of years old. Together with interstellar dust, these old stars create this yellowish starscape. The opaque dust obscures the true Galactic center in visible light, but there is a low-density hole in the dust on the right of the image. This region is named Baade's Window, for the German astronomer who studied it.
