COSMIC MESSAGE

This image shows sunspot 10982, one of the last sunspots of the Sun's previous solar cycle. Captured in a specific wavelength of hydrogen light, it reveals both hot and cool regions on the Sun's surface. Two dark filaments, held aloft by the Sun's magnetic field, are visible near the bright sunspot.
