The Case of the Very Dusty Binary Star

NASA APOD · Lynette Cook
COSMIC MESSAGE

The binary star system BD+20 307 is unusually dusty, appearing bright in infrared. This much dust is often seen around young stars, but BD+20 307 is billions of years old, similar in age to our Sun. The large amount of dust suggests a recent, powerful collision between planetary bodies.
