47 Tucanae is a globular cluster, a dense ball of several million stars, about 13,000 light-years away. It is the second brightest globular cluster orbiting our Milky Way Galaxy. The cluster, also known as NGC 104, is in the southern constellation Tucana, near the Small Magellanic Cloud. Red giant stars are visible in this image.
