The Galactic Core in Infrared

NASA APOD
COSMIC MESSAGE

The center of our Milky Way Galaxy is a busy place. To study it, the Hubble and Spitzer space telescopes combined their efforts to create this detailed infrared image. Infrared light is crucial for penetrating the dust that obscures our view of the galactic core in visible light. This image, spanning 300 by 115 light-years, is composed of over 2,000 images from Hubble's NICMOS instrument.
