Jupiter Eclipsing Ganymede
NASA APOD
COSMIC MESSAGE
The Hubble Space Telescope observed Jupiter eclipsing its moon Ganymede in April 2007. This rare event allowed astronomers to study Jupiter's upper atmosphere. As Ganymede passed behind Jupiter's limb, it reflected sunlight through the planet's atmosphere. Scientists looked for slight dimming at different colors to determine the haziness of Jupiter's upper layers.
