The distorted galaxy NGC 2442 is in the southern constellation Volans, about 50 million light-years away. Its two spiral arms extend from a central bar, giving it a hook shape. The image shows dust lanes, young blue star clusters, and reddish star-forming regions around an older, yellowish core.
