Orion in Gas, Dust, and Stars

NASA APOD · Rogelio Bernal Andreo (Deep Sky Colors)
COSMIC MESSAGE

Orion holds more than just its famous three belt stars. A deep exposure reveals a complex region of dark nebulae, star clusters, and extensive gaseous wisps, all part of the greater Orion Molecular Cloud Complex. Below Alnitak, the lowest belt star, lies the Flame Nebula, glowing with excited hydrogen gas and surrounded by dark dust filaments.
