The Lagoon Nebula from GigaGalaxy Zoom
NASA APOD
COSMIC MESSAGE
The majestic Lagoon Nebula, a nursery for young stars and hot gas, spans 100 light-years and is 5,000 light-years away. Visible without a telescope in Sagittarius, it is home to the open cluster NGC 6530, which formed only a few million years ago. The nebula gets its name from a band of dust that appears to divide it.
