Saturn's rings appear to disappear every 15 years when they point edge-on towards Earth. This image shows Saturn during its equinox, when the ring plane points directly at the Sun. The Cassini spacecraft, orbiting Saturn, provided this unique view. It allowed us to see the rings as they appear when sunlight illuminates them from the side.
