Crescent Earth from the Departing Rosetta Spacecraft

NASA APOD · ESA (MPS for OSIRIS Team), MPS/UPD/LAM/IAA/RSSD/INTA/UPM/DASP/IDA
COSMIC MESSAGE

This crescent Earth, with the South Pole visible, was captured by the Rosetta spacecraft as it departed our planet. Launched in 2004, Rosetta used Earth's gravity to slingshot itself towards a 2014 rendezvous with Comet Churyumov-Gerasimenko. This image was taken during one of its several flybys, propelling it further into the Solar System.
