COSMIC MESSAGE

Spiral galaxy NGC 7331, often called a Milky Way analog, sits 50 million light-years away in Pegasus. It was one of the first spiral nebulae identified, though Charles Messier did not include it in his catalog. Because its disk is tilted to our view, long exposures give a strong sense of its three-dimensional structure. The galaxy's inclination allows us to see its depth.
