The Pillars of Creation in M16 are famous structures of molecular hydrogen gas and dust. This image, taken with the Hubble Space Telescope in 1995, shows evaporating gaseous globules, or EGGs, emerging from the pillars. The giant pillars are light years in length. Inside, gas contracts gravitationally to form stars.
