Stereo Itokawa

COSMIC MESSAGE
This is a stereo view of asteroid Itokawa, a small world only half a kilometer across. Boulders are strewn across its rough surface, and the lack of craters indicates that this asteroid is a rubble pile. It formed as smaller pieces collected and were held together by gravity. The Hayabusa spacecraft took the images used to construct this stereo view when it encountered the asteroid in 2005.
