The Not So Quiet Sun
NASA APOD
COSMIC MESSAGE
After a long period of quiet, the Sun is showing more activity. This extreme ultraviolet image from the Solar Dynamics Observatory captured a complex burst of activity across the Sun's northern hemisphere. The false-color image shows hot solar plasma at temperatures between 1 and 2 million kelvins. Erupting filaments, prominences, and a solar flare accompanied a coronal mass ejection.
