SN 1006: A Supernova Ribbon from Hubble

NASA APOD
COSMIC MESSAGE

This unusual space ribbon is the remnant of one of the brightest stellar explosions ever witnessed. In 1006 AD, a supernova in the constellation Lupus appeared brighter than Venus and lasted for over two years. The Hubble Space Telescope captured this image of SN 1006, which is about 7,000 light-years away. The expanding debris cloud continues to fade as it spreads through interstellar space.
