AE Aurigae and the Flaming Star Nebula
NASA APOD · Rolf Geissinger
COSMIC MESSAGE
AE Aurigae is a hot, variable O-type star, illuminating IC 405, also known as the Flaming Star Nebula. The star energizes the glow of hydrogen gas and its blue light is scattered by interstellar dust within the nebula. However, AE Aurigae was not formed in IC 405; astronomers believe it was born in the Orion Nebula and ejected from it.
