Echoes from the Depths of a Red Giant Star

COSMIC MESSAGE
Asteroseismology allows us to explore the conditions inside a red giant star. The Kepler spacecraft measures small variations in a star's brightness, which indicate stellar oscillations, or sound waves. These waves compress and decompress the gas, causing brightness changes. Recently, it was discovered that some oscillations detected in red giant stars penetrate deep into their cores, revealing secrets from within.
