Young Stars in the Rho Ophiuchi Cloud

NASA APOD
COSMIC MESSAGE

The Rho Ophiuchi cloud complex is one of the closest star-forming regions, about 400 light-years away in Ophiuchus. This infrared image from WISE, the Wide-field Infrared Survey Explorer, shows dust clouds and embedded newborn stars. Young stars form along cold molecular hydrogen gas, then heat the surrounding dust. This heating produces the infrared glow seen in the image.
