M64: The Sleeping Beauty Galaxy

COSMIC MESSAGE
The Sleeping Beauty Galaxy, M64, appears peaceful, but it is actually in turmoil. Observations show that the gas in its outer regions rotates in the opposite direction from its stars. Collisions between the gas in the inner and outer regions are creating many hot blue stars and pink emission nebulae. The Hubble Space Telescope captured this image in 2001.
