A Triangular Shadow of a Large Volcano
NASA APOD · Juan Carlos Casado
COSMIC MESSAGE
The triangular shadow cast by Mount Teide, a large volcano, is a common optical phenomenon seen from the tops of big mountains at sunrise or sunset. The volcano itself is not strictly pyramidal. The effect is due to the observer looking down the long corridor of the shadow as it stretches to the horizon.
