COSMIC MESSAGE
A vast dust nebula surrounds the red supergiant Betelgeuse in this infrared image from the European Southern Observatory's VLT. Betelgeuse itself is the small, central red circle. If placed in our solar system, its diameter would almost reach Jupiter's orbit. The surrounding dust envelope extends 60 billion kilometers, 400 times the Earth-Sun distance.
