COSMIC MESSAGE
Galaxy NGC 474 has multiple shell-like layers of emission. The cause of these shells is unknown, but they might be tidal tails from absorbed smaller galaxies. Alternatively, they could be ripples from an ongoing collision with the spiral galaxy seen above NGC 474. This image shows the galaxy's complex structure.
