COSMIC MESSAGE
From the International Space Station, astronaut Ron Garan looked down on a Perseid meteor. The meteor streaked below, a piece of dust from comet Swift-Tuttle heated to incandescence. These glowing comet dust grains travel at about 60 kilometers per second. This remarkable view shows the meteor shower from an altitude of about 380 kilometers.
