Saturn: Shadows of a Seasonal Sundial
NASA APOD
COSMIC MESSAGE
Saturn's rings cast shadows onto the planet, and these shadows change with the seasons. In 2009, during Saturn's last equinox, the rings cast almost no shadows because they were pointed directly at the Sun. As Saturn continued its orbit, the ring shadows grew wider and moved further south, as seen in this image from the Cassini spacecraft.
